How to Fake a Snapchat Chat

Snapchat doesn't look like other chat apps, so faking it convincingly means matching the parts that make it Snapchat: the dark screen, the bold coloured name labels, and — most importantly — the status word under each message.

An example fake Snapchat chat with the Screenshot! status.

The Snapchat details that matter

  • No bubbles: each message sits against a coloured side rule with an ALL-CAPS name label — red for you, blue for them.
  • The status line: Delivered, Opened, Received, and the famous Screenshot! — this is usually the whole joke.
  • The fire-emoji streak counter with a day count next to the name.
  • Dark-first: Snapchat's chat screen is dark by default.

How to make one

  1. Open the Snapchat chat generator (it defaults to the dark theme).
  2. Set the usernames and avatars, and add the streak count.
  3. Add messages and set each one's status — including Screenshot! for the punchline.
  4. Export the PNG.
